As the World Cup for soccer has progressed in Germany, there are other World Cups going on in other games as well, including that one extremely popular gambling game, poker. While the United States national soccer team didn't perform according to the wishes of its American fans, the American team performed slightly better in the World Cup of Poker. Still, the team representing the U.S. went home from the World Cup of Poker earning second place to a former member of the Warsaw Pact.
"We're going to play poker amongst ourselves to see who takes the trophy home," he said. Philip Hilm, 30, a regular player on the televised European Poker Tour, was the celebrity player on the Polish team. "None of these guys have played in a big tournament before but they were very consistent and performed very well. Everyone made a contribution but it took a great final call by Jacek to clinch victory."
"The U.S. Team was playing very aggressively and he read the situation perfectly," said Hilm. The rest of the winning Polish team comprised team captain Marcin Doliwa, student pharmacist Andrzej Skawinski and Marcin Meinardi, a software developer. The U.S. took home $50,000 for second place, while Canada won $30,000 for third place. |
